Bancroftian Filariasis (Lymphatic Filariasis)

Reservoir- Humans are definitive hosts

Mode of transmission- The infection is transmitted by mosquitoes.

Filarial parasites exhibit a daily periodicity in the concentration of microfilariae in the peripheral blood.

Epidemiology

Occurrence

Widely prevalent in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa, Asia, Central and South America.

Lymphatic filariasis is found in several districts of SNNP, Oromiya, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, and Gambella.

Prevention

•Mass drug administration (MDA)

Vector control.
